Yarn Bombing La MesaLast winter The City of La Mesa asked Yarn & Thread Expressions to create a Yarn Bombing in a mini-park located at the intersection of La Mesa Boulevard and Allison Avenue. Of course, our knitters and crocheters went all out and created fabulous pieces which we then used to encase all the trees and poles in the designated area. It was so much fun and looked beautiful with the holiday lights shining through. When it was time to remove the installation, we were able to get the many knitted and crocheted panels back thanks to the sharp attention of Melissa Turner, an avid sock knitter who works in the city’s Public Works department.

Beds for Animals

Pet BedsAfter much thought and discussion we decided to re-purpose the panels and donate them to the local animal shelter to use as cat and dog mats. Each panel was carefully doubled to make it extra cushy and then seamed together with a lovely crochet shell stitch border, all of this work was done by creative Esme’ Gardner. Esme & SqueekyOn May 20 shop owner, Carol Fuller, accompanied by Esme’ and, of course shop mascot, Squeeky, delivered more than 25 pet beds to the El Cajon Animal Center (ACES). The staff was delighted to receive the donation and will send one of our lovingly hand-crafted beds home with each adopted pet.
