With the plastic grocery bags rules we think now is a great time to learn to knit our own bags that we can easily take along with us wherever we go. The Earth Day Bag knits up fairly quickly and you can be as creative as you want with the colors! We will be using a sturdy fiber so that your bag holds up and doesn’t stretch out too much when you load it up with groceries.
The body is knit flat and the handle is created by picking up stitches and knitting them in the round.
Skills you will learn/use:
- Simple mesh/lace using yarn-overs and decreases
- Picking up stitches – for the handles
- Knitting in the round
- US 8 straight or circular needles
Materials you will need:
- Earth Day Bag Pattern
- DK or Worsted weight yarn – 1 skein of each color – we recommend Hempathy, Zooey, Weekend, or Indigo.
- US 6 24″ circular needle
- Darning Needle
- Stitch Markers
Remember: Knit-Alongs are free when you purchase your yarn at Yarn & Thread expressions. Please plan to work only on the current or recently past KAL project.
